About

Derebi Atoma is an experienced respiratory therapist with a strong neonatal, pediatric, and adult critical care background. He currently works at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., and he has previously held positions at Children’s National Hospital, Children’s Minnesota Hospital, and Ann and Robert Lurie Children’s Hospital—Chicago, IL. Over the years, he has trained numerous respiratory therapists and oriented resident physicians in ventilator management, serving as a key resource in critical care settings and on the Critical Care Transport team.

Passionate about global health, Derebi has led mechanical ventilator training for healthcare providers, including hands-on instruction at Adama Hospital in Ethiopia and a NICU department improvement project in Saudi Arabia. With expertise in ventilator management and respiratory education, he plays an integral role in GHEP’s mission to enhance critical care training and improve respiratory care in underserved regions.
